What is Hypnotherapy?

Updated: Jan 30

The Real Hypnosis

When some people think of hypnotherapy, one of the first things that comes to mind is a stopwatch swinging from side to side in front of someone’s eyes, accompanied with phrases like “You’re getting sleepy,” and “When I snap my fingers, you are a chicken!” Or maybe one of those hypnotic optical illusion circles, which end up straining the eyes and making you dizzy. There are many forms of hypnotherapy, unfortunately, the most common ones as I listed above, are often mocked and can really scare people off from learning what hypnotherapy is about. These stigmas put hypnotherapy on stage rather than in health. So what is hypnotherapy, really

Hypnotherapy has been around for centuries, and almost all ancient cultures practiced some form of it. The Greeks, the Romans, the Egyptians, and more. The earliest evidence we have for hypnosis comes from the Egyptians, who, when sick would go to healing temples to be cured by hypnotherapy. Enough with all the history though, let’s talk some more about how hypnotherapy is used today, and why it’s important.

Most people are unaware of it, but we drift into hypnosis every single day. Once in the twilight phase, which is right before we fall asleep, then again in the morning when we are coming out of sleep. That is, if you actually sleep. Have insomnia? We can help with that too, check out our blog on insomnia. There are other times that we slip into a hypnotic state during the day, depending on what we are exposed to.

How can Hypnotherapy help you?

Hypnotherapy is proven to help people overcome their pain, improve their memory, conquer bad habits, and free people from fears, phobias, anxiety, and so many other mental blockages. It also can be used to help people who have Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Though psychotherapy (talk therapy) works for a lot of people and it can be very helpful, it turns a lot of people off because the thought of reliving their traumas is unappealing to them. Sometimes bringing up painful things from your past can do more harm than good, and in short, talk therapy just isn’t for everyone. Sometimes I just don’t want to talk about my problems, I want to fix them, and sometimes we know how to fix them, but our minds won’t let us get that far.

Hypnotherapy is the direct road to the subconscious mind. Hypnotherapy is very powerful when performed by a certified hypnotherapist who has actually gone to an approved and licensed school/institute to get in-depth training. That’s right, it’s not just done by some random person who took a weekend course and is out to cash in on your pain. It’s done by a trained professional, who is there to help you heal. Someone who truly cares about YOU (your mind, body, and emotion - after all, they’re all connected and contribute to your overall wellbeing).

Using the proprietary methods developed by WCT (Wisdom Center Technologies), the conscious mind reaches a state of peace, so that you and the therapist can access your subconscious mind where mental blockages, painful traumatic memories, and incorrect opinions about yourself all like to hide. A hypnotherapist can help you reach a level of physical, mental, and emotional relaxation and enter the healing state, also called the trance state. Hypnotherapy can just be one single session, or several depending on your needs and goals for healing.

A direct road to the subconscious mind, Hypnotherapy serves a specific purpose. It is a healing tool that is going to help someone get into an altered state of consciousness which will eventually help them solve issues they're facing, or discover deep rooted issues that may be preventing them from living their best life. Many people are unaware that our subconscious mind stores long term memory. Hypnotherapy allows us to access and remove potential blockages naturally and is not only useful for mental wellbeing, but also for physical healing! Since the subconscious mind has a very powerful control over your mind, emotions, and your body. It can take away from the focus on the pain, and even speed up the recovery process.

WCT in particular, uses a mind/body technique that gently allows the client’s internal wisdom to remove those pesky subconscious blocks, which can keep you from achieving your desired results. Once you’re able to reach a balanced ideal between mind, body, and emotions, that’s where deep healing may finally begin.

What are the signs of someone in the Healing State?

During Hypnotherapy, there are outer signs and inner signs of someone in the healing/trance state. The outer signs will be what the therapist witnesses in their client during the therapy session, and the inner signs are what the client experiences while they are in a trance-like state. There are also a number of degrees of the trance-like states the client is able to reach.

Signs of the Healing State

Depth of the Healing State (Trance)

Depth of Trance

  1. Hypnoidal State: (Light Trance) The first state of hypnosis is entered into on induction. This is a light state of relaxation and inner focus. The hypnoidal state is characterized by fluttering eye movements.

  2. Cataleptic State: (Medium Trance) The second stage of hypnosis is a ‘deepening’ of the altered state. This level is characterized by side to side eye movements.

  3. Somnambulistic State: (Deep Trance) This stage is the deepest ‘trance state’ characterized by rolling upwards of the eyes.

  • 5% Unable to be hypnotized (mental disability)

  • 25% Light Trance

  • 35% Medium Trance

  • 25% Deep Trance

  • 10% Somnambulistic
